Rena Riffel Official Judge at Zombie Walk Long Beach!

zombiewalk

Our very own Rena Riffel was in Long Beach this weekend, because she was the official judge of the Sexiest Zombie contest at Zombie Walk Long Beach!  Rena got to judge both the sexiest male and female zombie, and also got to introduce Oingo Boingo who were playing at the official Zombie Walk after-party.  Rena had a blast, and she will be back in Long Beach on Nov. 9th for the premiere of her new film Showgirls 2 (yes, a sequel to Showgirtls).  Check out the web site for info on Showgirls 2 and the Long Beach Premiere!

ComicCosplay The Movie is out!

ComicCosplay DVD Cover

This week the cosplay documentary ComicCosplay was released.  It features (among others) all the members of CelebrityCosplay.  Check it out at ComicCosplay.com!  Yes, that is our Paula Labaredas on the cover!

Paula Labaredas as Vampirella at Meltdown Comics

To the delight of many, Paula Labaredas once again got into the Vampirella costume, this time at Meltdown Comics in Hollywood.  But it wasn't for a special event.  She was shooting some television commercial footage for the upcoming documentary ComicCosplay, due out in October.  That documentary features CelebrityCosplay, among other web sites and cosplay organizations.  You might be wondering why the wig Paula is wearing is brown - it was a demand of the video crew who said the black wig didn't show up on video well enough.  So, don't blame Paula!  This is Paula's most requested  costume since the video of her trying it out for the first time went viral on YouTube last year!  Check out all the pix here.

San Diego Comic-Con is "CRACKing" Down!

IMG_8123

Just after CelebrityCosplayers Alicia Arden and Paula Labaredas posed for this shot with  Isaac Singleton, the local San Diego police stepped in.  Was it for blocking traffic?  No.  They pulled our Alicia Arden aside to inform her that her Red Sonja costume was too revealing and that she needed to change it.  According to the police, some parent complained that Alicia's "buttocks" were showing too much.  Isaac Singleton stood by in disbelief, as did we.  While the Red Sonja costume was certainly sexy, it really didn't show anything more than a typical bikini would.  Last year Alicia wore a hyper-sexy Aeon Flux costume which showed considerably more "buttock" than Red Sonja, and there were no problems.  Word has it that Adrianne Curry wore a similar Aeon Flux costume to Comic-Con this year, and she too was told to cover up.  It seems San Diego Comic-Con has changed their tune this year and were all about cracking down on sexy costumes.  Boo!

2011 Saturn Awards

The 2011 Saturn Awards, honoring the best in Science Fiction, took place on June 23rd at the Castaway Restaurant in Burbank, CA, and CelebrityCosplayers Alicia Arden and Paula Labaredas were invited to the festivities.  They were among many prestigious guests, including Thomas Jane, Mel Brooks, Frank Darabont, Michael Biehn, Anna Torv, Laurene Landon, Chloe Moretz and many others.  But Alicia and Paula found their favorite phot op wasn't with any of the human guests.  This lucky fellow get the biggest reaction from our ladies!

The Silicone Assassin Project

Our own Paula Labaredas has been busy lately, what with the recent wrap party for her upcoming film "The Critic" which she helped produce.  And now she has jumped right into another project entitled "The Silicone Assassin Project" directed by none other than Battlestar Galanctica's Richard Hatch!  Needless to say, Paula is a happy little cosplayer, not only because she gets to work with Richard, but also because she was given free reign to develop her own fembot-ish character for the film.  From the look of these photos, it seems Paula and her co-star Vickie Marie Taylor were having some ... umm ... fun shooting this one!  Congrats to Paula on the new project!

Once Upon A Time There Were Three Little Girls....

critic

On May 26th two of our cosplayers, Paula Labaredas and Alicia Arden, attended the wrap party for the upcoming film "The Critic."  Both Alicia and Paula star in the film and it was co-produced by Paula's production company, Lucky Tiger Films.  So congrats to both Paula and Alicia.  There to support was fellow cosplayer Bennett Cousins who appears with Paula and Alicia in the upcoming documentary "ComicCosplay" which features all of the CelebrityCosplay actresses!  The three ladies couldn't resist the opportunity to stike a "Charlie's Angels" pose for the cameras.

Apparently Dolphin is more popular than we thought!

dolphin by Anton Von Dort

Well, as you can probably tell from the last post, we thought Paula Labaredas' choice to go to Wizard World Anaheim dressed as the relatively obscure character "Dolphin" was a crazy idea.  After all, who has ever heard of Dolphin?  Who would ever recoginize her costume from the late 1960's - when it appeared pretty much just in one issue?  Well, apparently we underestimated Dolphin's appeal.  Or maybe it is just Paula's appeal dressed as Dolphin!  But whatever the case, the costume has developed a following and even inspired this work of fan art (courtesy  Anton Von Dort), which Paula demanded we put on the site as her way of saying "I told you so!"  We happily stand corrected.

Who the heck is Dolphin?

Our own Paula Labaredas wanted to try out a new costume at Wizard World Anaheim ComicCon on April 30th.  And while most people guessed she was the Jessica Simpson version of Daisy Duke, alas they were wrong.  Paula was in costume as "Dolphin," from the Aquaman comics.  And not modern day Dolphin, no.  We're talking 1968 old school Dolphin!  Yes, that photo is of Paula holding up some pix of Dolphin to prove she exists!  Friends Natalie Atkins, Eliot Sirota and the Avellan sisters from Grindhouse were there, as well of a bunch of cool costumes!

Jedi Elvis Concert for Japan

Jedi Elvis Concert for Japan

On April 13th, famed cosplayer Jedi Elvis held a concert benefit for Japan at Frank & Son Collectible Show in the City of Industry, CA.   Jedi Elvis is the KING of the Mash-Up Cosplayers, and his Star Wars-inspried Elvis Tribute show brought out fans and cosplayers alike.  Some of those attending included Natalie Atkins and her Slave Girl Costume, Cosplay Girl of the year Kit Quinn, our own Rena Riffel as Vampirella, Eliot Sirota of the Mando Mercs, Obi-Shawn and a bunch of others.  Everyone had a good time, and vendors at Frank & Son graciously donated items to be raffled and auctioned off to raise funds for Japan!
