CelebrityCosplay.com can trace it's beginning to April 30, 2006 when the first ever "LARPY" Awards was held in Hollywood at the Avalon Theater. In what was an unlikely pairing, live action costumed role players were thrown together some of the hottest actresses, models and playmates in Hollywood to honor the best in Live Action Role Playing participants in the world.
Needless to say, the LARP's liked the ladies. What was unexpected was how much the ladies liked the idea of dressing up in "geek" costumes. Their annual Halloween parties suddenly started to take on Sci-Fi and Superhero themes with more elaborate costumes.
In 2009, "Celebrity Rehab" star Mary Carey (who atteneded the LARPys) wanted to do a photo shoot as Princess Leia in the Slave Girl outfit - a popular costume among cosplayers. This was for Halloween, and primarily just for her Facebook page. We decided to make our own costume for the shoot, and further decided to photograph her in front of a green screen, so that other elements could be put in digitally afterwards.
Mind you, we are neither professional costume makers nor professional CGI artists - but we gave it our best shot. The experiment produced a nice picture of an enslaved Mary Carey standing over the dead body of a Sandperson she had just killed.
And the experiment produced something else too - a bunch of frantic phone calls from other actresses who wanted to wear the costume and create similar fantasy images!
Soon the photo shoots expanded to include other costumes and other characters, and so this site was born. CelebrityCosplay was built so these celebrity cosplayers could proudly share their hobby with each other, and with their fans.
This remains a hobby for everyone involved, and we continue to build costumes, shoot photos and create CGI backgrounds, whenever we have time to do so. Participants of CelebrityCosplay are regular attendees of local Comic-Cons.
We are always interested in hearing from anyone who wants to participate in this hobby, from costume makers to CGI artists to new models who are interested in cosplay. If you want to join in the fun, drop us a line here!
